The anticipation about the recent awards show was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.
A Different Direction
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio warned that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words implies that the team might be designing a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. For now, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it kicked off the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, player agency, and deep class systems—traits that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.
Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs only possible by choosing a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.
The series is also wonderfully open-ended, letting players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be completed in a variety of manners, frequently in surprising fashion.
- You might progress the story because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, players can anticipate a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
