PSG Defeats Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the season-opening trophy on 14 different occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

Yet, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital leveler in the final moments to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty win.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
